What is a Stroller and Their Types

A stroller or Pram is a hand-pushed vehicle to carry babies & young infants. More general terms also include a child carrier or baby transport or baby carrier.

Types of Stroller

There are various different types of strollers

Standard strollers

Standard strollers are also called full-size or regular strollers. They are normally designed to allow babies to lie on their backs for the first few months of their growth while some are designed to hold infant car seats when the baby is a bit older. Such types are usually built with enclosed sides or some type of containment. Some baby strollers also have features to stop babies from slipping through leg openings & keep them secure.

Travel stroller

Such type of stroller is an infant car seat & a toddler stroller in a single system where infant car seats can be used for car journeys & clicks into the toddler stroller base.

Jogging strollers

Jogging strollers are for serious runners. Parents who are exercise conscious. They can take their babies in jogging strollers easily. These strollers are lightweight-frames with air-filled tires. A jogging stroller provides a safe & smooth ride for a child on nearly any surface.

Tandem or double strollers

These types of strollers can hold two children at a time. In this specific or tandem designs, one child sits in the back of the other, making it easier to maneuver through stores or crowds because it’s the same width as a single stroller.

Side by side double stroller

This type of stroller also holds two children at a time but side-by-side together.

Lightweight strollers or umbrella strollers

They are usually cheaper. Lightweight strollers are best suited for toddlers & older babies, or children who are one year old & older. This type is not suitable for babies because they have little head support & don’t recline completely.

Know the Difference Stroller & Pram

A pram is a short form that came from the word ”Perambulator”. It’s also a wheeled carrier for baby. It is designed in such a way so that the baby can sleep in it if needed.

Strollers, on the other hand, let the kid sit upright. This baby carriage is also called Buggy in some regions.

Prams

  • Prams are best suited for newborn babies as well as for infants.
  • Prams do not have a harness or other safety arrangements.
  • In pram, the baby needs to be in the lying position the whole time.
  • The carriage is also called as Baby Carriage.

Strollers

  • The Strollers are best for those kids, especially those who can sit upright. If your kid has not yet familiar with how to sit, the stroller won’t be the best choice in this case.
  • The Strollers are also called Pushchair & Buggy in some regions.
  • Stroller carriage can look like a chair placed on wheels.

Remember, the heavier ones tend to be more durable & glide more smoothly, & deal better with bumpy terrain, but they are inconvenient in narrow aisles, small trunks, & flights of stairs. On the other hand, lighter strollers are easier to carry, lift, & store, but they are not suitable for bumpy terrains.
