What is Drone:
A drone, in technological terms, is a special unmanned aircraft which are more formally known as unmanned aerial vehicles or (UAV’s) or called unmanned aircraft systems (UASes). A drone is a wonderful piece of technology, which is uniquely build a flying robot that can be remotely controlled through onboard sensors and a GPS system.
A small history of drones
Many say the history of drones started in 1849 in Italy when Venice was fighting for its independence from Austria. Austrian soldiers attacked Venice with special hot-air, hydrogen and helium-filled balloons which were equipped with bombs. The very first pilotless radio-controlled aircraft were used in World War I. Later, in the year 1918, the U.S. Army developed the experimental Kettering Bug, an unmanned flying bomb aircraft, which was never ever used in the combat before. The first generally used drone appeared in the year 1935 as a full-size retooling of the de Havilland DH-82B “Queen Bee” biplane, which was fitted with a radio along with servo operated controls in the back seat. It flew unmanned & was shot at by artillery gunners in training. The specific term drone dates to this initial use, a play on the “Queen Bee” nomenclature.
Short modern drone history
A special Wall Street Journal report claims widespread drone properly used began in the year 2006 when the United States Customs and Border Protection Agency introduced UAV’s to monitor the U.S. and Mexico border. Later in late 2012, Chris Anderson, editor in chief of Wired magazine got retired and dedicated himself to his drones company name 3D Robotics, Inc. (3DR).
A company which started off specializing in hobbyist personal drones are now used for aerial photography and film companies, construction, utilities, telecom businesses, and public safety companies, among others. In the late year 2013, Amazon CEO ”Jeff Bezos” announced a plan to use commercial drones, especially for delivery activities. However, in July 2016, Reno-based startup Flirty beat Amazon to the punch, successfully delivering a package to a resident in Nevada via their commercial drone. Other companies have since followed suit. In September 2016, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University began a test with Project Wing, a unit of Google owner Alphabet, Inc., to make deliveries, starting with burritos produced at a local Chipotle restaurant. Then in December 2016, Amazon also delivered its first Prime Air package in Cambridge, England. In March 2017, it demonstrated a Prime Air drone delivery in California.
What is commercial drone use?
Commercial drone (Quadcopters )use can cover a wide variety of activities. In general, the term refers to any activity with a drone that provides Profit through the sale of photos or videos secondly provision of any kind of service or monitoring the progress of a business project. Many bloggers use a drone to capture maximum sceneries and surroundings during their journey.
Drones for Agriculture
Farmers can benefit from drones in many ways. Drones can save farmers money by helping them identify failing plants early and take inventory of crops. This technology can also be used to map & study the farmland and its irrigation systems. With the use of drones technology, agricultural workers are able to gather data, automate redundant processes, & generally maximize efficiency.
Drones for Emergency Services
Using drones for emergency response services, particularly when it comes to urgent medical needs, presents new opportunities for life-saving measures. Using drones is the easiest way to keep an eye on a difficult situation, or to deliver medical supplies to stranded victims, could enhance the ability of emergency response physicians to offer care in difficult situations. One of the prominent venture-backed medical delivery companies is called ” Zipline International”. Zipline has launched delivery drones in most rural areas throughout Africa and continues to expand its reach. Flirty drones have also been used to deliver medicine.
Usage of the drone in Engineering
Engineering firms are also using drone technology on in-depth projects like oil pipelines, transmission cables, and maintenance inspections. Usage of drones in construction planning & management is very beneficial. Software developers have created solutions that analyze construction progress with regularly captured data. Ground surveying is the most critical part of construction planning & monitoring, this is why the use of drone data has become increasingly important. Drone camera technology is used to monitor buildings as well as gauge topography and soil type throughout the construction lifecycle.
Drones in Environmental monitoring and conservation
Much like how farmers use drones to monitor crops & animals, the technology can be utilized to keep tabs on ecological environments too. Drones make less noise can monitor animal populations without disturbing them. Monitoring of this type offers important insights into conservation efforts, migration tracking, habitat management, flood assessment, which is particularly useful on the coasts.
Drones for Media/TV channels
Another important use of drones is in media coverage. News channels use drones on the wide range now. Previously, aerial shots were possible only through Helicopters. Now, local journalists and small-scale media outlets can easily capture aerial footage for news coverage with drones quite easily. Drones can easily get into tighter areas, lower to the ground than a news helicopter could ever hope to travel.
